Alumni Spotlight
Brittany Garzillo, '13
Reporter/Producer, WLVT PBS39
I graduated from ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ in 2013 with a self-designed major in Communications and Media Studies. During my time at ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½, I started my career in broadcast television as an intern at WFMZ in Allentown, PA, NBC10, in Philadelphia, PA and at PBS39 in Bethlehem, PA. After graduation, I received my first job out of college as a Reporter/Producer for PBS39's Emmy® Award nominated weekly news magazine show, FOCUS. As a Reporter/Producer at the station, I’ve received 7 Emmy® Award nominations from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for my work on stories which range from topics on health and education to history and public affairs.
What helped me succeed the most at ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ is undoubtedly the passion and drive professors and alumni had to see students succeed. Professors and alumni believed in me to create my own major. They encouraged me to think out-of-the-box. And in moments when I wasn’t sure if I was going along the right path, they encouraged me to create my own way, while at the same time reminding me that once I made it to inspire future generations to do the same. That commitment is truly at the heart of ÐÔÊÀ½ç´«Ã½ and contributes to my success today.
